OMO Ladakh CUES for Long-Distance Touring: Every Question Answered (2026 Guide)
OMO BikesShare
Planning a cross-country bicycle tour across India? One of our customers recently reached out while building an OMO Ladakh CUES (18 Speed) for his 60-year-old father, who is preparing to ride from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat over approximately 45–60 days.
His priorities were what every touring cyclist looks for:
- Comfort
- Reliability
- Durability
- Low maintenance
He also had few technical questions about upgrades, compatibility, and component choices. Since many riders ask similar questions, we've compiled all of our answers into one detailed guide.
About the Rider
The bicycle is intended for:
- Rider Age: 60 years
- Ride Duration: 45–60 days
- Terrain: Highways, villages, mountains, and mixed roads across India
- Objective: Maximum comfort with minimum maintenance
Frame & Paint
Is the Matte Red frame powder coated?
No. Our standard red finish is Gloss Red.
We can also paint the bicycle in Matte Red as a custom option (₹2,000 extra).
Currently, all OMO bicycles use high-quality liquid paint. Powder coating is not available.
Tyres
Which Performance Tyres are supplied?
Our Performance Tyre upgrade uses a 60 TPI Ralson tyre.
Compared with our standard tyres, it offers:
- Better ride comfort
- Lower rolling resistance
- Better quality rubber compound
- Improved puncture resistance
How does it compare with Schwalbe Marathon Plus?
We haven't tested both tyres side-by-side over long expeditions.
However, based on industry reputation, Schwalbe Marathon Plus remains one of the world's benchmark touring tyres.
Our Ralson Performance tyre is still among the better touring options available in India and provides excellent value.
At present, Schwalbe Marathon Plus is not available as an upgrade option.
Suspension Fork
Which SR Suntour fork is used?
Depending on availability, we fit either: SR Suntour XCT / SR Suntour XCM
Both are excellent forks and include lockout & preload functionality.
Brakes
Can I get Shimano MT200 Hydraulic Brakes?
Yes. As of July 2026, Shimano MT200 hydraulic brakes are available on: Ladakh CUES 9 Speed / 18 speed.
They are currently unavailable on Prime 8 Speed and 24 Speed models.
Handlebar & Cockpit
Should I choose Alloy or Steel handlebars?
We recommend the Alloy Handlebar because
- Lighter weight
- Easier steering during long rides
- Less shoulder fatigue
- Rust resistant
Are Adjustable Stem and Ergonomic Lock-on Grips worth upgrading?
Absolutely. For long-distance touring, these are among the most valuable comfort upgrades. Adjustable stem helps you find comfortable posture, while wrist support grips helps reduce arm fatigue.
Bottom Bracket
Is the Shimano Bottom Bracket Hollowtech II?
No. The Shimano Bottom Bracket upgrade currently uses: Shimano BB-UN101 / Shimano BB-UN300 (depending on availability)
These are sealed cartridge square taper bottom brackets, not Hollowtech II.
Saddle
Do you recommend a suspension seatpost?
Yes. For senior riders or anyone riding multiple hours every day, a suspension seatpost can significantly improves comfort. We recommend adding one.
Pedals
Which pedals are best for touring Alloy Pedals / Wellgo U968 / VP536?
We generally do not recommend the basic alloy pedals for premium touring builds.
Our preferred options are:
- VP536 (our favourite)
- Wellgo U968
Both offer similar quality and durability.

No. The supplied mudguards are entry-level mudguards.
They provide everyday splash protection but do not offer the same coverage as dedicated full-length touring mudguards.

Yes. Currently, this is the highest-capacity rack offered by OMO.
Higher-capacity expedition racks are not available at the moment.
What are the USB light specifications?
Technical Questions

Final Thoughts
Every long-distance rider has slightly different priorities, but the goal remains the same: build a bicycle that disappears beneath you and lets you focus on the journey.
For riders planning cross-country expeditions, multi-day tours, or weekend bikepacking adventures, the OMO Ladakh CUES can be configured with several thoughtful upgrades to improve comfort and reliability.
We generally recommend investing first in the contact points (handlebar, grips, saddle, and pedals), followed by braking performance and wheel components, as these upgrades have the biggest impact on long days in the saddle.
